WeirdMusic.net Magazine & Stunt Company PR ( The Cardigans, PAUL OAKENFOLD, Mause on Mars , Owl City etc) Presents - XYLOS.

Xylos is a co-ed, aurally adventurous five-piece orgy of pop from New York, their music characterized by four-part vocal harmonies, complex orchestration, and a large variety of instruments and electronics. The music of Xylos has been compared to that of the Shins, Paul Simon, and Fleetwood Mac (though one suspects the latter is due partially to the gender breakdown of the band). The band is Eric Zeiler, Nikki Lancy, Aaron Mendelsohn, Monika Heidemann, and Mike Greenfield. Their debut EP, Bedrooms, was composed and performed primarily by Eric Zeiler and features guest vocals by Ira Wolf Tuton and Anand Wilder of the Brooklyn band Yeasayer.

WeirdMusic.net - Exclusive Interview with Xylos:

- Do you Like/Write Weird Music??
Monika: yes/yes...at least the sector who is answering this question
does and the being called Xylos is a sum of its parts.

- When and where did your experience in music start?

One of the earliest memories I have is seeing/hearing Slash playing in
one of the early G'N'R videos.  Axl's androgyny turned me off for some
reason, but Slash did it for me.  I immediately began begging my mom to
get me a guitar and let me take guitar lessons.  It took years of
getting past classical guitar lessons on a nylon string before I got my
first electric and could even approximate what Slash does...

- What are you currently working on and what are your plans for the
rest of the year?

We're currently in the studio working on our full-length.  It's a
multi-step processing... demo-ing the songs at home, working out the
electronic components, writing the vocal parts, and then taking it into
the studio.  It's by far the most fun thing in the world for me, and
I'm loving every minute of it.  We're going to be focusing on the
record for the remainder of the summer and most of the fall, with some
shows thrown in the mix.

- What do you consider your greatest inspirational sources in music?
Eric: For me, sources of inspiration invariably come when I'm not
expecting or looking for them.  Most of the melodic elements to songs
come to me when I'm walking.  I sing the idea into my phone to record
it, just in case I forget it, but if it's a good one then it'll stick
with me all day.  When I get home I'll try translate it onto an
instrument and figure out what's happening harmonically with it and
begin the recording process.

- What are your favorite readings?
Nikki: i like all sorts of Readings . although for some reason the best
Readings are by people who Capitalize Words Unnecessarily. like Lewis
Carroll, Saint Exupery, Rudyard Kipling, and A.A. Milne. weird music
fans might also like daniil kharms, fernando pessoa, and becky roth.

- In your opinion, what role does the third sector, public and
non-profit entities; have for music on the Internet?

Monika: Most bands today are third sector, and we are giving away our
EP for free on the internet, though we are applying for the 7th sector

- Who is Wacky Jacky?
Nikki: wacky jacky is good friends with sticky nikki, cleric eric,
darin' aaron, psych-y mikey and sonica monika.

- Porn or Horn?
Monika: Porn, because you'll get fined for honking your Horn in lots of
places in NYC, but Porn is pretty much free on the internet, along with
our music.

- Should we Fork you twice or it's better to Funk you once?

Nikki: definitely, funk me once. who wants to be forked? seems painful.
i'd rather be at the receiving end of some horns and a bass line.
