OWL CITY RETURNS TO #1 ON BILLBOARD HOT 100

Debut Single “Fireflies” Shows No Signs of Slowing Down

New York, NY – Universal Republic Records' basement launched phenomenon Owl City reclaimed the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart this week after originally hitting the #1 position two weeks ago with the smash hit “Fireflies.”  The song continues to break boundaries at radio as it is top 10 at both Top 40 and Hot AC formats along with impressive showings at Alternative, Triple A, and Rhythm Crossover making it one of the most requested songs in the US. “Fireflies” also sold an amazing 200,000 digital singles this week bringing sales totals over a million. Combining an impressive radio story, huge sales, a #1 song, a sold out tour in the U.S as well as sold out shows in Asia this month are all parts in making Owl City the artist development story of 2009.

A self-described ‘shy-kid' who first arrived on the music scene in 2007, Universal Republic Records has successfully translated Young's hypnotizing songscapes into mainstream captures of everyday life, connecting with radio, digital and video audiences across the U.S.   Owl City 's magical mix of lively-digital rhythms and lush melodies first hatched in the basement of his parent's house is perfectly portrayed in his debut video for “Fireflies,” which depicts the affable singer performing the song in dreamy basement environment.  The video is closing in on an incredible 13million views on YouTube, and surging in X-LARGE rotation on VH-1, and other video and digital platforms.

With Ocean Eyes on its way to gold status Owl City just wrapped a highly-praised sold-out U.S. tour – ‘Imagine if Nine Inch Nails traded dark for light…' raved Livedaily.com about Young's recent Hollywood show.  ‘ If such a remarkable transformation took place, it would sound, look, and feel a lot like Owl City .'   People who missed this past U.S. tour can catch Young's energizing show next year when Owl City hits the road again in January before touring Europe in February and then Australia and New Zealand in March.

Steve Shiffman & The Land of No Announce the Release of their Self-Titled Debut

– Out Late Summer 2009 on Tiny Beast Records

New York, NY – Steve Shiffman & The Land of No announce the release of their self-titled debut – out late Summer 2009 on Tiny Beast Records.  The band laid down tracks at The Seaside Lounge in Brooklyn, NY where indie stalwarts including The National, The New Pornographers, and Okkervil River among others, have also recorded.  Mixed by Bryce Goggin (Pavement, Lemonheads, Akron/Family) and mastered by Wharton Tiers (Sonic Youth, Nick Cave), the debut features 12 new songs.  Steve Shiffman & The Land of No will be the first release for the Chicago/Portland-based independent label founded by Todd Dahlhoff (Little Joy, The Dead Trees) and brother, Tory. 

Steve Shiffman originally hails from Canada and upon moving to New York City, was instantly drawn to the antifolk music scene that was bubbling underground.  He soon met and teamed up with drummer Pete Hayes (The Figgs) and the duo became the first incarnation of what was to become Steve Shiffman & The Land of No.  They released the home-recorded self-produced EP Tambourino in 2003 which received raves and produced successful tours on both sides of the Atlantic.  The duo began to steadily expand as their popularity grew and eventually bassist Kent Heine (Holy Ghost), guitarist dAve Hollinghurst (Nicole Atkins) and guitarist Alec Ferrell (Holy Ghost) rounded out the line-up.  They played a series of sold-out residencies around NYC and have toured up and down the Northeast, sharing the stage with artists as diverse as Regina Spektor, Morningwood, Adam Green, The Pernice Brothers, The Black Angels, and Jens Lekman.

Steve Shiffman & The Land of No began as a one man project and have since grown into a fully fleshed out band comprised of five eclectic musicians who each contribute their own distinctive talents.  Already recognized and respected by their peers, Steve Shiffman & The Land of No are ready to introduce the rest of the world to their unique brand of songwriting.

The long awaited vinyl version of Brand New's critically acclaimed third album, The Devil & God Are Raging Inside Me , will be released on March 23rd on the band's own Procrastinate! The New Zealand foursome just wrapped their first US tour with Har Mar Superstar.  A successful trek of the US that came on the heels of a slew of shows at this year's CMJ Marathon.  The band's unique, high-energy fusion of dance and punk got everyone moving and generated a lot of buzz.
