WeirdMusic.net - Ari Shine EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW:

- Do you Like/Write Weird Music ?
I have never considered my music weird but I definitely
have moments on my last record “A Force Of One” that
were pretty, quirky particularly “Deep Pockets/Led Wallets”
and “Flirtation Device”. As far as liking weird music, I would
say a resounding yes! From Os Mutantes and Captain
Beefheart to Falco and Guided By Voices I have always
enjoyed trippy tunes.

- When and where did your experience in music start ?

I began playing guitar when living in Israel as a kid. My
parents had moved there for a year or so. My teacher was
soldier. I was obsessed and couldn’t put my Yamaha axe
down. There was nonstop nylon string guitar action all the
time in the house!

- What are you currently working on and what are your plans for
the rest of the year ?

I am about to release my new album “Ghost Town Directory”
on Beverly Martel Records and will be doing a ton of touring
in the new year. I’m looking forward to shows all over North
America and beyond.

- What do you consider your greatest inspirational sources in
music ?

I am constantly blown away by the songwriting of David
Bowie, Bruce Springsteen, Kate Bush, Tom Petty, John
Lennon, Townes Van Zandt, Billy Joel, Chrissie Hynde, Elvis
Costello and Joe Jackson.

- Best Song Ever ?
Could be “Waterloo Sunset” by the Kinks.

- Please describe your personal studio for us...
My home studio has Protools, lots of capos, skull shaped
shakers, a Nord Electro, a bunch of fun pedals both vintage
and new, harmonicas, a glockenspiel, a couple of Telecasters,
a Gretsch, a Hummingbird and some cool basses. Oh! And a
toy ukulele that gets used more often than you would think.

- What are your favorite readings ?

Lately, Deepak Chopra 7 Spiritual Laws of Success and Hugh
Cornwell’s Multitude of Sins.

- 3 things you cannot live without ?

My acoustic guitar, my computer and my passport.
