ALTERNATI-V- - TURNING POINTS (digital album by patpong records)
'Turning Points', the debut album of the Romanian artist Victor Mihailescu alias 'Alternati-v-', represents his work on electronica/ downtempo/ chillout sounds.
He's also known as the Techno-Dj and producer 'Victor M', (Suma Records/ WhoBear Records).
'Turning Points' is really multifarious work. His particular nature to jump between the genres chillout, downtempo, trip-hop, breakbeat and pop is a really amazing mixture.
His collaboration with the Romanian female singer 'Danny Claire' (Better), and 'Danni Ionesco' (Perfect Cure), a Romanian male singer, reflecting more his interpretation of pop-music; the other eight tracks are a mixture of genres . Really relaxed sounds, perfect for the summertime .

About patpong records:
patpong records is a place for artists of the electronica scene, besides artists of the clubbing scene.
The two German music junkies, Michaela Treffil and Christian Sumser, founded the label 2007 in Bucharest/ Romania.
All time enthusiastic and motivated, they started the work on the label first in Romania, meanwhile abroad, too.
The name of the label is inspired by the world famous amusement quarter called 'Patpong' in the heart of Bangkok / Thailand.
Fascinated after a couple of trips to Thailand respectively Bangkok, the weirdos Michaela & Christian decided to name the label after one of the most wackiest place, they had ever been discovered.

WeirdMusic.net EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW - ALTERNATI-V-
- Do you Like/Write Weird Music ??
I bet every other artist said yes, so I'm feeling special and I'm saying no. I like music that makes sense, but if the boundaries have to be stretched for it to fit the context that's fine with me.
- When and where did your experience in music start?
Listening to my parent's cassette of Jean Michel Jarre. It was the weirdest thing a 6-7 year old could hear in those days.
- What are you currently working on and what are your plans for the rest of the year ?
I'm doing the whole sound jobs for a medium movie (production sound, post-pro, soundtrack), I'm producing for my Alternati-v- project and for my clubby Victor M alias, collaborating with romanian artists Ok Corral and Dorroo, and I'm also working on a live project with the boys from Clipstics. Sleep is overrated anyway !
- What do you consider your greatest inspirational sources in music ?
I get very inspired by videos or documentaries that I watch with the sound muted. Melodies just pop into my head. Another weird way that I get inspired is by listening to music at very low volume. The musical notes that I think I hear are not those actually used in the song and when trying to reproduce it the notes get even more random so the result becames very usable and original !
- Please describe your personal studio for us...
Big(ish) 24 inch lcd, one custom made PC, a 4 octave midi controller, alesis m1 active monitors, an Olympus sound recorder for sample gathering and that's pretty much about it.
- What are your favorite readings ?
I'm a SF geek, I read Frank Herbert's Dune 2 times, I like Isaac Asimov's stuff and science books like Stephen Hawking's A Brief History of Time. Now I'm reading a speciality book called "Sound Design - the expressive power of music, voice and sound effects in cinema" by David Sonneschein and I'm also struggling to learn german from one of those teach yourself books.
- In your opinion, what role does the third sector, public and non-
profit entities; have for music on the Internet ?
Non-profit entities? Who works for free?? In specially with all the leeches draining the life and the money out of the music industry..
- Who is Wacky Jacky ?
If you're talking about Michael Jackson, he's a recently deceased pop singer. Definetly a huge influence in the scene, not one of my personal idols but someone I do appreciate..
- Porn or Horn ?
I know what Porn is, so for the sake of curiosity, I'll say Horn and maybe you'll explain to me what I've gotten myself into??
- Should we Fork you twice or it's beter to Funk you once ?
I don't care much for quantity, so just Funk me once, but do it well !
- Are you religious ?
I believe in the Almighty and Miraculous Power of Music.
- Anything else ?
Check out my first Alternati-v- album: Turning Points, coming out this month!

BIO
Born in September 1988 in the small town of Slobozia, Romania, Victor Mihailescu grew a great interest for music even from his childhood. It all started with old cassettes with Jean Michel Jarre, Vangelis, Enigma from his parents, later on Music Instructor, Chemical Brothers, Moby, Chicane etc. Listening to a wide musical palette, he developed an extensive taste for various genres, from ambient to rock, house, trance and techno.
Over the years he tried many art forms: modern dances, (digital) painting, writing, movie making, in the end he discovered music is the most rewarding and fun one. After playing around with pc mixing software and theoretically learning how to mix on hardware, Victor kicked off by mixing live in front of a local pub’s owner, and the next day he was pushed straight to the head of a line up warming up the decks for, e.g. the Romanian DJ Vania.
Starting from that night he had the pub’s residency for one year. He also had a weekly Trance show at Radio DJ, another one at Radio Net, was invited to Fresh FM, Radio Lynx, warm-uped for the famous Romanian group Suie Paparude and mixed at parties.
He started producing right after dj-ing, steadily but surely improving his sound and experimenting with various genres. Victor gets bored very easily, that’s why his sets are always changing and dynamic, and his productions are hard to categorize. He currently has two aliases: Victor M for techno, and Alternati-v- for electronica/ downtempo/ chillout productions.

"Turning Points is my debut album. It is not a planned or overproduced one, but rather late night ideas that caught shape really fast and seemed to capture my moods and feelings in unexpected but pleasant ways.
As you will discover, I love jumping between genres: chillout, downtempo, trip-hop, break-beat, pop elements being scattered all around. Big thanks to patpong records, Danny Claire and Danni Ionesco for joining me in this initiating journey!"
